OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A federal appeals court has rejected an Oklahoma death row inmate's appeal of his first-degree murder conviction and death sentence. The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied the appeal of 38-year-old Brian Davis, who was convicted of first-degree murder and first-degree rape in the November 2001 death of his girlfriend's mother, 52-year-old Josephine Sanford.
TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Parts of eastern Oklahoma may be hit by the remnants of Tropical Storm Isaac as it makes its way inland from the coast. The National Weather Service says southeastern Oklahoma may see thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon. The rainfall is predicted to increase Thursday night through Friday as the center of the dying storm moves north across western Arkansas.
EL RENO, Okla. (AP) - Authorities say at least eight cattle were killed in a highway fire caused by a blown-out tire. Oklahoma City television station KOCO reports the fire happened this morning in El Reno. Authorities say a driver was hauling more than 20 cattle when one of the vehicle's tires blew out, sparking the blaze. Police say the driver was able to escape the fire unharmed.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission says LeFlore County had the highest unemployment rate last month in the state, at 10.1 percent. The state says Sequoyah County has the second-highest rate at 9.2 percent, followed by Latimer County at 8.7 percent. Oklahoma's statewide unemployment rate was 4.9 percent in July. That's the fourth-lowest rate in the country.
