LIBERTY, Texas (AP) - An arrest warrant has been issued after a man being tried on charges he took part in the repeated sexual assault of a young Texas girl didn't return to court after a break. Testimony continued today in the trial of Eric McGowen despite the 20-year-old's absence. A court official says state District Judge Mark Morefield is drafting a bench warrant this afternoon for McGowen's arrest.
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Acknowledging defeat within their own party at the Republican National Convention, some supporters of retiring Texas Congressman Ron Paul have returned to Maine. Ron Paul supporter Matt McDonald says the next priority is to build a state party by filling Republican committee posts across Maine with "liberty leaning individuals".
HOUSTON (AP) - A 60-year-old Houston-area man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the 1979 stabbing death of another man. The Harris County Sheriff's Office says Martin Gutierrez was convicted today of killing 23-year-old Santiago Godinez. The victim's body was found in July 1979 in northwest Harris County.
WASHINGTON (AP) - There's a rare 'blue moon' on Friday, a fitting wink to Neil Armstrong by the cosmic calendar. That's the day of a private service for Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, who died last Saturday in Ohio at age 82. A blue moon occurs when there's a second full moon in one calendar month. It won't happen again until July 2015.
