AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Can you imagine as a sophomore in high school, running your own feed store?

One former Canyon High School student has done just that and is winning National Honors for it.Colton Meyer is now a freshman at West Texas A&M University. But since he was a sophomore at Canyon High School he's been running that feed store.

It was just a few months ago when Colton Meyer was invited to a State FFA Competition and was named a National Finalist in the Agricultural Sales Entrepreneurship Proficiency Area. A feat that he says he was able to accomplish thanks to his skills at running a feed store.

"Before I joined FFA I had no idea what I wanted  to do. Before this I was playing football and I didn't really like it. Then I joined the FFA and I started showing and I got my feed store. I learned agriculture business, how do the income and I mean everything," said Meyer.

Now Colton will travel to Nationals in October.

"I go down there and I'll interview for my National placing and then after that I have a chance to go to Costa Rica and I'll interview for that and I guess talk to the judges and they'll pick the few of us".

Those few will go to Costa Rica and study their agriculture. "We're going to go to four or five different farms and then we'll go to some ag business places over there in Costa Rica," said Meyer.

But that's not all, Colton will also get a chance to receive a $1,000 scholarship. "I could pay for books and I mean, it could help out a lot". Colton says he's hoping to graduate college with a focus on Animal Science.
