AMARILLO, TEXAS -- If you're from the Amarillo area, you may have some friends you don't know about, and Sunday was their last day of their annual book sale at the Downtown Public Library.
Book worms from all across the Texas panhandle gathered to be a part of the 'Friends' organization, brown bag sale.
"The friends of the Amarillo Public Library, book sale, are the main fundraiser for the friends group. The friends group is a 501-c3 non-profit organization that supports the Amarillo Public Library. Basically, the friends pay for everything the public library does that we don't use the tax payer money for," said Public Relations Coordinator Stacy Clopton Yates.
The friends group runs programs such as the summer reading program and the book sale makes that possible while also giving the community an opportunity to increase their own personal library.
"There is something magical about books," said Yates. "You know there is a book that you have read and you have loved and you want to own it and have it on your shelf so you know you can go back to it anytime you want."
Thousands of books were on the shelves and the different genres satisfied readers of all ages.
Shopper Natoshia O'Neal said "I found a little bit of everything. Children's books, I've found a lot of Billy Graham, and like spiritual books that I wanted for myself."
O'Neal who was a first time buyer at the book sale says her family loves to read and the fundraiser wasn't something she could pass up.
"I've been looking for books, but books are kind of expensive, so to get a bag full of them for three dollars, you can't beat that," said O'Neal.
If you missed out on this weekend's sale, the next brown bag sale will be in November.
