TULIA, TEXAS -- A Justice of the Peace in Swisher County was arrested on Friday on a charge of Tampering with a Government Record.

The Texas Rangers arrested Judge Priscilla Sanders on third degree felony charge after it was alleged that she used her position to unlawfully issue a protective order for a relative involved in a custody dispute.

The protective order allowed the relative to unlawfully gain custody of a child, the Texas Rangers said.

Judge Sanders, according to the Rangers, issued the bogus protective order in September 2012.

She was booked into the Swisher County Jail where it is expected she will be released on a $10,000 bond.

Tampering with a Government Record carries a maximum fine of up to $10,000 and/or up to 10 years in prison.
