AMARILLO, TEXAS -- According to the jobs report released Friday, Amarillo unemployment rates are the third lowest in the state, and events like the Amarillo Job Fair are yearly contributors to the low rates.

Hundreds of job seekers flocked to the Amarillo Civic Center, seeking employment from businesses ranging from Ben E. Keith, to Bell Helicopter. If this spring's nearly 3,500 attendee's are any indication, the fall fair was a big success.

"We've got so much opportunity," Mollie Barney of the Amarillo Job Fair said. "We cover such a huge radius."

For many people new to the Amarillo area, the job fair is an opportunity to find solid career opportunities.

"I'm new to Amarillo," Brian Salitore said. "There's a really good showing, there are a lot of companies here looking to hire people and that's always a good thing."

Truck drivers, management positions, occupational therapist, this job fair truly offered options for anyone seeking new employment. In addition, the fair provides employers a chance to get to know their applicants prior to scheduling an interview.

"Us being here allows us to really communicate," Rick Sims of Panhandle Transportation said. "Face to face talking with drivers and people interested in going to truck driving school is good."

Today's event was truly all about making that first impression.

"Most important thing is, you need to identify yourself as a successful candidate for any position," Barney said.

"You're seeing us first, we're the ones that will be hiring you," Erin Palacio of Northwest Texas Healthcare System said. "Your first impression to us is how well you present yourself, knowing your abilities, and exactly what you're looking for."
