AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Amarillo Chamber of Commerce has announced a new executive director for its Convention and Visitors Council.

Chamber officials today announced their newest employee is Dan Quandt -- and we spoke with him by phone today to see what he's bringing to the city's table.

Doing business as usual...the chamber of commerce doesn't plan to miss a beat with their new acquisition. Dan Quandt has most recently served as the convention bureau director at south padre island and is a past chairman of the Texas association of convention and visitor bureau, and Eric Miller with the chamber says we're lucky to have him on board.

"We've had an opening for a couple months, but Dan came in earlier this month and it's seemed to be a really good fit. This is really a coup for Amarillo to attract a person for this stature to our tourism industry."

Quandt's first day on the job is next Monday and we caught up with him on the phone and he says he's ready to hit thr ground running, building on the groundwork that's already been laid by the chamber.

"To do great things with what we already have to sell for conventions and I'm excited to be able to share Amarillo with the rest fo Texas and the world," said Quandt.

Miller says about half the staff here already knew Quandt from previous connections and everyone's excited about him making an impact and as he says, it's not his first rodeo and he likes what we have to offer.

"First, thing is to really get an understanding of where we are right now and then really look at every aspect of what we do."

Along with his other awards and positions, Quandt was also appointed to the white house conference on tourism.

And he has served on the board of directors of the national association of sports commissions.
