GUYMON, OKLA. -- The Chief of Police in Guymon is headed to another Oklahoma town.
Chief Eddie Adamson resigned Tuesday morning, effective Friday, and will start next week as the Chief of Police in Chickasha, Okla.
"Thank you to all the wonderful people in Guymon who have made the last five years remarkable for me and my family," Adamson said.
Adamson became Guymon's Police Chief in October 2007. He has worked in law enforcement for more than 20 years.
In January, Adamson was placed on paid administrative leave. Adamson said he was cleared to return to work several months ago but was not resinstated. The City of Guymon declined to comment further on the matter.
"I am torn with emotion right now, happy that I can move on to a new chapter of my life, and hope that my time in Guymon has been beneficial to the citizens in some way, but I am deeply saddened at how things have turned out," Adamson said in an emailed statement.
Guymon's City Manager Ted Graham said the position will now be open. A time table for a decision was not known.
"We will have a position available," he said. "We will either hire out or promote from within."
The Guymon Police Department employs about 20 officers and serves the town of about 11,000 people. Chickasha has a population of more than 16,000.
