SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - The Game and Fish Department says fishing is closing on several northeastern New Mexico lakes used by migrating waterfowl as winter resting areas.

Fishing seasons ends on Wednesday at Clayton Lake, Charette Lakes near Wagon Mound and Maxwell National Wildlife Refuge lakes 13 and 14 in Colfax County.

The state record walleye was caught at Clayton Lake.

The department also said it's reached an agreement with the Vermejo Conservancy District for public access to the privately owned Stubblefield Lake for fishing as well as waterfowl and dove hunting. The lake is near the Maxwell refuge and produced the state record channel catfish.

The lake will be open to the public for 10 years under the new agreement.
