AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A 3-year-old child was transported to the hospital after police said the child fell from the vehicle and was struck by its rear tires.

The child's condition has since improved, police said.

Officers were called to the 6600 block of Pavillard Drive at about 8:30 p.m., Thursday.

Police said a woman had been driving a van with four children, ranging from ages 3 to 10, when one of the older children opened the van's side door while the van was moving.

As a result, police said a 3-year-old boy fell from the vehicle and was struck by the rear tires.

The child was transported to the hospital and the incident remains under investigation, police said.
