AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo has a new Fire Chief.
Jeff Greenlee, who has worked with the Amarillo Fire Department since 1993, was promoted to the position, effective November 8, the City announced.
City Manager Jarrett Atkinson said a nationwide search was conducted by Strategic Government Resources, a consulting firm specializing in government recruitment. Candidates were narrowed down to three internal and one external candidate.
"Jeff's experience, education and determination will provide the necessary leadership in a continually growing and evolving department dedicated to serving every member of our community," said Atkinson. "The Amarillo Fire Department is highly considered throughout the region and the state. The men and women of the department provide the highest level of protection and service to our community, and I look forward to this continuing under Chief Greenlee's leadership. Jeff Greenlee is highly respected among his peers and has my utmost confidence as our new fire chief."
Greenlee fills the Chief position left vacant last year by retiring Steve Ross.
Before being named Chief, Greenlee served several positions with the AFD, including his post recent position as District Chief. In that position, he served as the City's HazMat program and Director of the Fire Department's Communications Program.
As Chief, Greenlee will be responsible for eveery aspect of the department. The department includes 250 firefighters, 17 civilian personnel and soon to be 13 stations.
The fire department's budget for the 2012 Fiscal Year was listed at more than $25 million.
