FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - An 8-foot-tall bronze statue of President John F. Kennedy now stands in downtown Fort Worth, where he gave his last public speeches before his assassination hours later in nearby Dallas.
The JFK Tribute includes a granite wall containing his quotes from that morning and pictures of the late president and his wife.
Kennedy spoke at a breakfast in Fort Worth the morning of Nov. 22, 1963, after speaking outside to thousands who had waited in the rain to hear him.
Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price said during Thursday's ceremony that Fort Worth's story has been almost forgotten.
Project organizers say they want to honor the ideals and themes in Kennedy's last speeches.
The JFK Tribute is on 1½ acres close to where he delivered his outdoor remarks.
