So here's the thing... More than 25,000 people have signed a petition for Texas to secede from the United States.

The petition cites the county's economic difficulties as a reason to secede.

"The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government's neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending," the petition listed.  "The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc."

According to the petition, Texas has the 15th largest economy in the world and would therefore be feasible for Texas to become an independent state.

Is this legal? The White House said the petition must meet at least 25,000 signatures within 30 days in order for it to be considered.

"If a petition gets enough support, White House staff will review it, ensure it's sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response," explains the website.

Texas is not the only state to have a petition started for its seccession. At least 14 other states also have a seccession petition: Kentucky, Colorado, New Jersey, Montana, North Dakota, Indiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Oregon.
