One person was killed in a two-vehicle accident on US 83 just 15 miles south of Canadian at about 7 am this morning.

Roger Eric Hanna, Jr., 30, from Elk City, OK, was traveling south on US 83, when the 1993 Nissan he was driving crossed the center stripe, striking an on-coming vehicle that was towing a trailer. Elbert Dewitt Johnson, 56, of Temple, Tx, the driver of a 2007 International truck with a trailer swerved to the right to avoid a collision. The Nissan struck the front left of the truck-trailer causing it to go off the road to the right.

Department of Public Safety and emergency works diverted traffic to SH 277 while they worked the scene.

Justice of the Peace Larry Dunnam, Hemphill county, pronounced Hanna dead at the scene at 8:10 a.m. Hanna was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Alcohol is not a factor in the accident. Relatives of the deceased have been contacted.

Johnson did receive minor injuries and was considered in stable condition at the Hemphill county hospital in Canadian, Texas.
