LIPSCOMB COUNTY, TEXAS -- A 44-year-old Higgins man was killed after a head on collision in Lipscomb County Monday morning, according to the Department of Public Safety.

DPS said the crash happened at about 7 a.m., Monday.

James Lee Frederick, 44, was traveling eastbound on Highway 60 about six miles west of Higgins when DPS said he crossed into the westbound lane.

That's when DPS said Frederick fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a truck hauling a flatbed trailer.

The driver and passenger of the truck were not injured and were wearing seat belts.

Frederick was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
