CANYON, TEXAS -- Parents and children will see an increased presence of police officers at Canyon schools for the remainder of the school year, according to a statement from the Canyon Police Department.

The increased officer presence is in response to recent concerns of school safety in the Canyon Independent School District, police said.

There have been no direct threats made to any Canyon school, the statement said.

Officers plan to patrol campuses and walk through each school periodically. The new strategy is an effort to assure parents that the CISD and Canyon Police Department are doing all that they can to ensure the safety of students and staff.

CISD and the Canyon Police Department are asking the community to stay involved and forward any information they believe to be a threat towards students and school staff by calling 806-655-5005 or by calling StayAlert at 1-206-406-6485.
