Man arrested in Amarillo homicide case

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo Special Crimes investigators identified the other armed intruder who was inside the residence in the 1600 block of South Arthur Street when a man was killed and another injured Wednesday night.

Amarillo Police Department SWAT Team found the suspect, Tony Michael Spangler, 21, at a local motel when they arrested him, police said.

On Wednesday night police responded to the residence on South Arthur Street on a shots fired call. A woman had notified police that unknown, armed intruders were inside the residence and had shot her boyfriend as the two fled from the house, according to a news release.

When police arrived at the residence they found one man dead inside the home. The deceased victim has been identified Leonard Torres, 26, police said.

An autopsy for Torres has been ordered and will be completed Friday, police said.

Spangler was booked into the Potter County Jail for Murder and Aggravated robbery, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the case to contact the Special Crimes Unit or Crime Stoppers at 374-4400.
