APD still searching for armed robbery suspect

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Tuesday afternoon at approximately 4:00 p.m. Amarillo Police responded to an armed robbery call at Diana's Tamales on Amarillo Boulevard.

Two females were inside the store at the time of the robbery . One employee said a man entered the store twice. The first time he ordered food and then left. The second time, the man ordered food and when the employee opened the register he demanded the money and reached inside the register and showed the employee a long barrel handgun.

After taking the money out of the register, the suspect ran from the store going South on North Madison Street.

The employee described the man as a black male, 20-25 years old, 5'9" and slim. She said he was swearing a green hooded jacket and dark colored sweat pants.

An Amarillo Police Officer, spotted a man matching the robbers description. The officer stopped to question the man who then told officers he was armed. The officer had the man place the weapon on the ground and took the man into custody.

The man was interviewed about the robbery and later taken to the Potter County Detention Center for unlawfully carrying a weapon. He was not charged with the robbery and not under arrest for the robbery.

APD are still investigating the robbery and searching for the robbery suspect.
