Chris Brown, 58, has had a tough go of things lately. Last October his wife, Pam, died of cancer. They’d been married more than 30 years. A month after that he lost his job as the manager at the Palo Duro RV Park.
He suffers from Crohn’s disease and severe arthritis, which has affected his arms and legs. He needs medication. He’s applied for Social Security disability and should know soon if he’ll qualify. On top of all that his money’s run out and he won’t be able to pay rent for another month on his house. He traded in his van for an old motor home and hopes he can depend on that. Local non-profits say Chris Brown has more options.
Danielle Crawford at the Guyon Saunders Resource Center says "We definitely want to do anything we could to try to help them from losing their homes." She recommends calling 211.
Major Harvey Johnson of the Salvation Army says they have programs to help folks get past a bumpy road. Brown says he went from "a happy marriage, a good job, close to retirement, to living here and running out of money and not knowing what I’m going to do next."
