OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma Senate has approved legislation that would allow residents of nursing homes to install electronic monitoring devices in their private rooms.

Senators passed the measure 44-0 Tuesday and sent it to the state House for consideration.

The measure is designed to provide a higher level of protection for Oklahoma seniors. The bill is a priority for the AARP Oklahoma, the state's largest senior organization with more than 410,000 members statewide.

The bill requires nursing homes to let residents or their legal representatives know about the opportunity for electronic monitoring in their rooms. The bill also prohibits nursing facilities from refusing to admit any potential resident because they want their room monitored.
