AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Interstate 27 was down to one lane of traffic for approximately 2 hours Thursday afternoon due to a traffic accident.

Thursday, March 21, 2013 at approximately 2:00 p.m. Amarillo emergency crews were sent to a major accident in the northbound lanes in the 2900 block of Interstate 27.

When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found a Suzuki Bandit motorcycle driven by 33-year-old Daniel L. Baus had struck a Chevrolet Blazer.

The Blazer driven by Jose L. Cortes-Martinez, 33, was stopped along with other traffic because of previous collision when Baus lost control of his bike when applying the brakes and was thrown from the bike.

According to a news release from Amarillo Police Department, it appears that Baus did not see the traffic congestion and tried to stop when he lost control of the bike. Baus was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Amarillo Police Department's Traffic Investigation Squad is investigating the incident.
