GALVESTON, Texas (AP) - The Coast Guard says a fishing boat crew has rescued four people whose vessel capsized in the Gulf of Mexico about 100 miles southeast of Galveston. Officials say no one was hurt and a dog was also rescued. The captain of the sinking boat contacted authorities yesterday morning, and the Coast Guard issued a broadcast alert for any nearby boats to help.
DALLAS (AP) - Jurors today will resume deliberating the punishment for a Dallas woman convicted in the dehydration death of her 10-year-old stepson. Tina Marie Alberson faces up to life in prison after being convicted on Friday in the death of Jonathan James. The boy was denied water for days during record-high temperatures in North Texas.
HOUSTON (AP) - The star prosecution witness in the trial that convicted Texas financier R. Allen Stanford is scheduled to learn his sentence for helping bilk investors out of more than $7 billion. James Davis is due in Houston federal court today. Davis faces up to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty in 2009.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Three Texas lawmakers are planning to introduce a new law to give school districts more options in providing security on campus. Representative Dan Huberty and Senators John Whitmore and Tommy Williams are expected to announce the "Texas School District Security Act" today. The bill comes in response to the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., last month.
