Thousands hunted eggs, petted bunnies, and watched zoo animals devour Easter treats
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Forget the chocolate Easter bunnies and peeps. Animals at the Amarillo Zoo got a different kind of treat on Saturday. The zoo hosted Egg-citement, a fun event where visitors watched zoo animals feast on special treats. The zoo also hosted several egg hunts, featured a live bunny petting area, and had a special visit from the Easter Bunny.
From the brand new lemurs to the spider monkeys, the zoo animals ate goodies like hard boiled eggs and other treats.
Zoo officials say over 4-thousand eggs were hunted over the course of Saturday's event.
"It's been great for the zoo staff here, because we're seeing a lot of people who have come out and are having a fun time enjoying themselves, we're seeing a lot of people who haven't been here in a while and are really enjoying seeing the new changes here at the zoo," said Mike Boley, Amarillo Zoo.
The event also featured face painting, craft making, and education on animals that lay eggs.
The next happening out at the zoo will be April 17th, which will be an educational event focused on threatened wildlife here in the Texas Panhandle.
