CANYON, TEXAS -- AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - A ribbon cutting is planned this week at Palo Duro Canyon State Park for a 4,080-square-foot stone building at the base of the descent into the canyon.

A Thursday ribbon cutting is set for the pavilion intended to host events including wedding receptions, family reunions and corporate retreats.

The Amarillo Globe-News reports the Mack Dick Group Pavilion is designed to be reminiscent of the work done at the park by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.

The state park located near Amarillo attracts more than 300,000 visitors each year.

Area businessman Mack Dick donated $1 million through the Amarillo Area Foundation toward the building. Matching funds from the state were also used and the Friends of Palo Duro Canyon Foundation donated money for the kitchen and furnishings.
