In the District Court building in Amarillo, Jan. 1, 2013, Potter County Commissioners H.R. Kelly, Leon Church and Mercy Murguia were sworn-in by 47th District Judge Dan L. Schapp.

Murguia is filling the term of the late Manny Perez whose term ends December 2014.

She said she strongly believes in transparent government.

"One of the platforms that I promised to my constituents is that I would hold quarterly town hall meetings. And so that has certainly been very heartfelt to see the level of engagement, the level of questions that constituents are really taking time to understand where their taxpayer dollars are going."

The 47th District Attorney Randall Sims, and the new Tax Assessor/Collector, Sherri Aylor were also sworn-in.

Sims said he wants Potter County to be paperless.

He said, "It’s still my goal I hope at some point to get the criminal justice system for it to be paperless here in Potter County. And I’d be looking forward to try to get that accomplished. It just takes a while to make that happen."
