AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Residents across Amarillo are hopeful that 2013 will be a year of change.

For many, political reform was considered to be the most important topic in the new year. Government spending, bipartisanship, the fiscal cliff, and economy were among the issues residents found most in need of change.

School safety and gun control were also hot topics, in light of the shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut. Stricter gun control laws, stronger security at schools, and mental health evaluations were considered key issues to be addressed in the new year.

Members of the community are also hoping to see an increased economy, with a focus on small businesses. They also want to see diversity in new businesses throughout Amarillo.
