AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Fathers were the focus of Tuesday night's "Digging Science with Dads" event at Gene Howe Elementary.

"Digging Science with Dads, we've catered it to the evening time, and we tried to make it more hands-on and something that maybe kids would enjoy doing with their dads," says Principle Nicole Johnston.

Dr. Nick Flynn, Head of the West Texas A&M University Department of Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, showed parents and students the principles of density.  They learned how to make bouncy balls, duck call noise makers, and various other experiments using real-life application.

The fun wasn't just for the dads. Extended family members were also invited to join the fun.

As a Title 1 campus, Gene Howe Elementary is trying to add more parent involvement activities to its curriculum. The LIFT Program (Learning is Fun Together) aims to promote learning as a family.
