AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A 7-year old child remains in the hospital after Amarillo Police Department says he was a hit by a pickup truck Friday night.

Officers were dispatched to the 2700 block S.W. 26th at 9:58 p.m. in reference of a motor vehicle vs. bicyclist collision.

Officers found that a white male, 7-years old, had been riding a dark red BMX style bicycle southbound across 26th Avenue, in the middle of the block.

He was hit by a 1993 Ford F-150 pickup driving eastbound on 26th. The child was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck, 26-year old Christopher Scott Mitchell, was arrested on scene and booked into the Potter County Jail on charges of Intoxicated Assault.

The case is being investigated by the Traffic Investigations Unit of the Amarillo Police Department.
