Crowds head to Memorial Park for Labor Day picnic.
AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A free picnic drew quite a crowd out to Memorial Park on Monday.
The picnic was hosted by the Amarillo Central Labor Council (ACLC). The annual picnic is put on by the council every year on Labor Day as a way to show its appreciation for union members and their families. Monday, about nine different unions from the Amarillo area attended the picnic.
President of the ACLC, Abel Bosquez said they choose to appreciate the union workers in this way because years ago, Labor Day was the last free day for workers to celebrate some time off with their families.
"It was the last weekend for workers to be able to take their families on one last outing before school started," said Bosquez. "We do this appreciation of all of our Union members."
The ACLC receives donations from various unions to help host the picnic every year.
