AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Christmas will be in Amarillo in a big way Wednesday afternoon.

The Capitol Christmas Tree will make a stop in the city on its way to the U.S. Capitol. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said it will provide a patrol escort for the tree.

On Wednesday morning, the tree will leave Albuquerque, N.M., and will be at the Texas-New Mexico border at about 1:30 p.m. That's when DPS will provide an escort to the tree.

The tree will remain in Amarillo overnight at the Downtown Library. The tree is set to arrive around 4:00 p.m.

It will depart Amarillo at about 7:30 a.m., Thursday on U.S. 287 where it will head to Dallas to the House of Blues.
