AMARILLO, TEXAS -- A two-year old child suffered life threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle backing out of a driveway.

It happened Sunday morning around 11:00 a.m. in the 3100 block of South Fairfield Street. The Amarillo Police Department says the mother of the child was backing out of the driveway in a red Chevy SUV when the child was struck by it. The child was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

The Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit was called out to investigate the accident.
