AMARILLO, TEXAS -- 50 years have passed since Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his "I have a dream" speech and the people of Amarillo continue to honor his legacy and remember his dream.

The local NAACP hosted its annual Martin Luther King march that started at Bones Hook Park. Mayor Harpole joined the countless number of people that came together to march while celebrating Doctor King's life.

Police escorted the crowd of all difference races and ages to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park. Something they would not have been able to do 50 years ago.

Despite the changes made over the years within the country, the president of the local NAACP, Floyd Anthony points out that there is still room for more growth. He states that he would like to see more young people get involved throughout the community. "It's the younger generation. They're taking things for granted," said Anthony. "They don't realize the importance of being involved in the community."
