AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Motorist will be paying a lot more at the pump across the state as the average price per gallon has jumped 8 cents.

According to AAA the price per gallon of regular unleaded is now $3.34 which is up from last week's average of $3.16.

Although the new gas prices have increased across the state, the average price is still 18 cents cheaper than the national average, AAA said.

News of the strengthening economy is what is driving up the price, AAA said. Prices are expected to continue to rise as a refinery in New Jersey closes next month.

Dallas motorists are paying the most at the pump with the average their being $3.30 per gallon. While El Paso drivers are paying the least at an average price of $2.99 per gallon.

Amarillo drivers are feeling the difference as well.

While prices across the state only raised 8 cents, the average price at the pump shot up 15 cents over the past week. Motorists can now expect to pay an average of $3.14 per gallon according to AAA Fuel Gauge Report.
