AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Driving into Shamrock, Main Street on St. Patrick's Day takes on a whole new dynamic.

Four leaf clovers, leprechauns and the color green decorated the street sides as the Irish culture was apparent.

"Shamrock is a small town about 2,000 people," said Vaughn Anne Thomas Chamber of Commerce Member. "Because it's titled Shamrock, that's Irish, so St. Patrick's Day is just a very, very special time for Shamrock."

Main street businesses said this day is a treasured tradition for the people of Shamrock and the thousands that attend the yearly festivities.

"They enjoy the fact that somewhere in the panhandle there's a big celebration and a place to go and have fun," Sandy Willis Old Station Antiques Owner. "We all work hard to have things fixed up and decorated for the people."

Festivities include a carnival, multiple food vendors, a craft show and pageants.

Thousands visited Shamrock for the St. Patty's Day celebration, but officials said it's more than the weekend of fun that keeps everyone coming back.

"Everybody just enjoys it," said Ricky Atkins Wild West Soda Owner. "There are a lot of people that think of it like a reunion. A lot of people come from all over."

"Everybody comes back for it," said Jody Stewart Celebration Attendee. "I haven't lived here in 20 years, and we come back every year for it."

Even though St. Patrick's Day has come and gone, the upside is it will be back again.
