AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Coffee Memorial Blood Center currently has a critical shortage of type O- blood and is asking residents to donate as soon as possible.

According to the blood center, recent accidents and traumas left the type O- blood in a critical situation.

Type O- blood is the universal donor and can be given to anyone in times of crisis when their blood type may not be available, officials said.

Anyone with O-negative blood is asked to make a donation as soon as possible.

Located at 7500 Wallace Boulevard, the blood center is open on Wednesday and Thursday until 5:30 p.m., Friday at 4:30 p.m., and Saturday from 8-noon.
