AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Parents address the AISD school board to address school safety concerns.

Of the items addressed at the meeting, the most talked about was the issue of allowing educators, faculty members, and staff to carry a concealed weapon on school property.

The stipulations of the proposal suggested that if an adult was open to carrying a handgun, they must have district authorization and receive training in crisis management and hostile situations.

As required by state law, AISD is in full compliance with the school safety requirements of the Texas School Safety Center. The district is actively reviewing their security procedures to ensure that all children will be safe on school campuses across Amarillo.

What do you think?
Given proper training, do you think teachers should be able to carry a concealed weapon on campus?
