AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The Don Harrington Discovery Center is hosting its annual spring break camp for kids of all ages. The center is promoting community involvement in educational activities throughout the week. The Spring Break Camp will go Monday through Friday, during normal business hours.
On Monday, the Amarillo Bulls joined the Discovery Center staff to help with experiments and teach kids how to shoot a hockey puck. Tuesday and Wednesday, the center will feature "Sid the Science Kid" in their Space Theatre. On Thursday, staff and visitors will celebrate Pi Day and the birth of Albert Einstein. Friday the center will host "Bubblemania".
For Discovery Center staff and parents, the camp is an engaging way to keep kids engaged in science, even during vacation."You keep your mind engaged, you get to play with stuff that helps you learn while you're playing, and we're a family community here so we like families to come in. Mom, dad, the kids, everybody come in and play together", says Discovery Center Events and Programs Assistant, Chris Johnson.
The Amarillo Bulls hockey team even took some time off the ice to teach visitors hockey skills, and to lend a hand in some surprise experiments.
"We're hockey players, but at the same time, we're trying to play college hockey, so it's a really good way to kill two birds with one stone, and promoting education and promoting the game of hockey, too", says Bulls player, Omar Mullan.
The camp is free for all existing members. Non-members adults pay $10, while non-member children pay $7. All children under 2 are free. For more information on the programs being offered, go to http://www.dhdc.org/.
The City of Perryton is also hosting their Spring Break Science camp from March 11-15. The camp will feature robotics lessons, Weather and Water Day, Horticulture Day, Library Day, and Lego Day.
