GUYMON, OKLA. -- An Albuquerque, N.M., woman was killed Wednesday afternoon north of Guymon after the car she was driving was struck by a semi, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) said.
49-year-old Adela Chavez-Degomez was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital of Texas County, OHP said.
It was Wednesday afternoon just before 3:00 when authorities said Chavez-Degomez was attempting to enter Highway 64 from a private drive about 2 miles north of Guymon. Chavez-Degomez was driving a 2001 Kia.
According to OHP, the Kia entered the roadway and was then struck by a 2000 Kenworth semi. The semi was traveling northbound.
OHP said the Kia was struck in the driver's side door. Chavez-Degomez was pinned in the vehicle for more than 20 minutes, OHP said.
Chavez-Degomez was not wearing a seat belt, OHP said.
