ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Law officers today will reveal more details about a female prison employee accused of bringing large amounts of heroin and cocaine to an inmate that she identified as her fiance. Prison officials say the employee at the Southern New Mexico Corrections Facility near Las Cruces was not arrested but that charges against her are pending.
RUIDOSO, N.M. (AP) -- A wildfire in southern New Mexico has destroyed 242 homes and businesses, and firefighters are working to increase containment and keep an eye out for possible lightning. The 59-square-mile Little Bear Fire in Ruidoso is 60 percent contained as of late yesterday. Fire officials say most of the fire is in the mop-up stage, but crews need to build more containment on the fire's active west side to deprive it of fuel.
FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - Anglers who fish in the San Juan River are calling on New Mexico officials to maintain natural gas service in the Four Corners region. The Albuquerque Journal reports fishermen from outside the state are behind a most complaints aimed at New Mexico Gas Co. for gutting off gas to dozens of customers below the Navajo Dam, including hotels and fly-fishing businesses. The utility said the cutoff is a business decision.
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - The option to vote a straight party ticket is disappearing in New Mexico and won't be available when people head to the polls in November. Voters historically could support a party's entire slate of candidates by making just one mark on the ballot or pressing a single button or level on a machine.
