HEREFORD, TEXAS -- A Hereford High School freshman already knows what he wants to do for a career, and taking steps to realize his dream.

Jacob San Miguel says that dream job is to work in sports medicine. He's been invited to follow some of the nation's best doctors to learn more about the job. It's this week's Region 16 Spotlight on Education.

Jacob is a freshman football player. It's his love for sports and Science that led him to make the decision to get involved with sports medicine as a career. Just a few weeks ago, Jacob found out he'd been selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum On Medicine this coming summer.

"I'm going to San Francisco, California and we're going to go and stay there for 10 days and just go and experience how like the doctors how everything goes on in the hospital," said Jacob San Miguel, Hereford High School freshman.

Jacob was sent a letter from the National Research Center for College and University Admissions. Hereford High School Principal, Richard Sauceda said he could not be more proud of him.

"What an honor as a freshman to go to this leadership conference on medicine is amazing that a freshman already has the initiative to know what he wants to do when he graduates".

Sauceda says what Jacob is doing ties into an initiative they started this year. "No Excuses University", meaning no student will have an excuse not to go to college.

"There is life after high school. There's a two year college, a four year University and we're trying to say, hey what do you want to be when you graduate?"

Jacob says he's already planning on going to Florida State University and from there, the sky's the limit.
"To get out of Texas and see things and it will give me some experience on how the doctors life is," said San Miguel.

As you might imagine, to attend the Leadership Forum, a student must be accomplished. Jacob is making A's and B's in his classes.
