AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Amarillo City Commissioners passed several items without opposition Tuesday.
In one, they approved the purchase of digital cameras and lenses for the police department. Those will cost a little more than $32,000, money already set aside in the budget for equipment improvement. A grant application to the Texas Department of Agriculture for a Summer Food Service Program was approved, which would help the City feed roughly 6,800 children throughout the summer.
Also, Amarillo residents will soon face a new drainage utility fee of about $2.50 after Tuesday's passing of the Drainage Utility Program.
"People will be getting sample bills in August showing what that fee will be for each property owner and so I think we have made big strides in addressing the drainage utility issues that the City has when we do have floods and water runoff," said City Commissioner, Lilia Escajeda.
Citizens won't actually be charged those fees until October, 2012.
