AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Ashley Solis has been turned down for Medicaid, and now she is hosting a fundraiser in hopes of raising enough money to pay her daughter's medical bills.
Solis' 6-year-old daughter Autiana was in a car wreck this past March and suffered serious injuries. Her mother, who works full-time, makes $200 more than Medicaid will allow. And as single mother, she is finding it hard to come up with the money needed for her daughter to fully recuperate.
"She suffered a brain injury," Solis said. "It, like, popped the top of her head open. So, she had reconstructive skull surgery. She has two metal plates and 13 screws in place of that. And she suffers from a broken arm on the right side and a broken right femur."
According to Solis, Autiana's head is healing properly and there have been no further problems with it. The money she is needing to raise will go toward having her daughter's cast cut off, her arm checked out and also surgery on her femur.
"I've been trying to get assistance and they keep denying me. And I can't pay this on my own. So, I'm asking the community of Amarillo to help me out, to help my daughter out. She's been suffering and I want her to be all the way better and this is completely for her."
Solis has opened a trust account at Amarillo Community Federal Credit Union under her name. The account is open for anyone to donate money. Solis is also hosting a car wash Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. at the Burger King located on Ross.
