FRITCH, TEXAS -- A 21-year-old Fritch man drowned on the Fourth of July at Lake Meredith, park offiials said.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Captain Game Warden Robert Levens said Charles Johnston, 21, of Fritch was swimming to meet up with his brother and other family members when he began struggling and went under water.

Borger Police and Texas Parks and Wildlife officials searched the Sanford Yake Cove area until midnight.

The search resumed Thursday morning with dive crews from the Amarillo Police Department and the Clarendon Fire Department.

Dive crews began searching at 11:05 am.

Sonar equipment helped them locate and remove Johnston's body around 12:40 pm.
