Phase one of the transformation of downtown Amarillo's Fisk building into a Marriott hotel is now completed. ProNews Seven had a chance today to go to an invitational hard hat sneak peak tour of the inside.
It's been gutted and opened up to downtown with the addition of a lot of windows and natural light. But not everything is going away, some historical references are being saved.
"They kept a lot of the great artifacts in there. the brass on the otis elevator, the brass letter box, there's just so many interesting things here, regional floors, anything they could save, they have saved," said Beth Duke, the Center City Executive Director
The hotel is expected to open by next fall. Marriott officials say it will have 12 rooms on each floor, and stunning downtown views.
