The first day of August is shaping up to be a breezy and hot day with a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky. Upper level high pressure will keep our rain chances at bay, and help our afternoon high temperatures to climb into the mid 90s to around 103°. So yes... expect it to be warmer than it has been recently. Winds will blow from the south and southwest at 15 to 25 mph by the afternoon with some gusts upwards of 35-40 mph possible as well.

A wreck about ten miles north of Amarillo claimed the life of a Dumas man. According to DPS troopers, around 9:30 Thursday morning on US 287 a Mistibushi Eclipse was traveling south in the outside lane when the driver tried to change lanes, the ice on the road sent the car into a side skid and it struck a semi-truck travelling in the inside lane. The semi couldn't stop, and it hit the passenger side, pushing the car into the guardrail.

30-year-old Claro Montes was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car Lorena Nevarez was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital. She is in stable condition with internal injuries. Troopers say they were both wearing their seatbelts.
