The first day of August is shaping up to be a breezy and hot day with a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky. Upper level high pressure will keep our rain chances at bay, and help our afternoon high temperatures to climb into the mid 90s to around 103°. So yes... expect it to be warmer than it has been recently. Winds will blow from the south and southwest at 15 to 25 mph by the afternoon with some gusts upwards of 35-40 mph possible as well.

AMARILLO, TX -- Tea Party supporters are gathering in Nashville, TN Thursday night. They include a local woman who is there for this weekend's first ever Tea Party Convention.

The President of the Amarillo Tea Party Patriots says the convention is mainly "instructional". She says it will teach tea party groups all over the country how to utilize resources and technology, and how to go about changing policies.

She says the movement is picking up steam because folks want their opinions to be heard.

"The government is taking over some banks, they've actually taken over some of the automobile industry. now they want to take over healthcare, that's not what this country was founded on and, um, people are rebelling and are actually trying to unify their efforts to make changes take place," said Jodi Martin, the President of the Amarillo Tea Party Patriots.

The next Tea Party meeting in Amarillo is set for February 20, 2010.
