AMARILLO, TEXAS -- The snow on the ground and the frigid temperatures helped the Cold as Ice 10K run live up to it's billing. Saturday mornings run was the first of a two part race series that will benefit the Bridge.
The Bridge children's advocacy center helps kids and their families heal from the trauma caused by abuse or other horrible situations.
Over 150 runners signed up and braved the brisk morning conditions to participate. The goal is to raise upwards of 1-thousand dollars for the Bridge.
"I was a counselor previously when I worked in education, and I just have a big place in my heart for the Bridge because it's a great advocacy center for children who have been abused, and so we wanted to donate. We wanted to start a race series, and we wanted to donate to a charity that we felt would benefit kids," said Karen Roberts, Owner Get Fit.
The next race in the series will be held at the end of July.
