The first day of August is shaping up to be a breezy and hot day with a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky. Upper level high pressure will keep our rain chances at bay, and help our afternoon high temperatures to climb into the mid 90s to around 103°. So yes... expect it to be warmer than it has been recently. Winds will blow from the south and southwest at 15 to 25 mph by the afternoon with some gusts upwards of 35-40 mph possible as well.

Hal Miner, 47th District court judge, died Friday in a New York hospital. Miner had traveled to New York for surgery on an unrelated health issue in February. Miner suffered a mild heart attack after the surgery, and then he had another bad one, he recovered from those, before suffering several strokes. Miner was 64 years-old.

Miner was first elected to the bench in 2002. His 47th District Court has jurisdiction in Armstrong, Potter and Randall counties.

Services for Miner are pending with Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
