ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The New Mexico State Transportation Commission has voted unanimously to ban or restrict red-light cameras and mobile enforcement vans on state or federal highways and roads over which it has jurisdiction.
The Transportation Commission says there's no convincing proof such cameras make streets and highways safer.
The commission's action Thursday does not affect the cameras and vans on roads that are not regulated by the state Department of Transportation.
Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Las Cruces all have red-light camera ordinances.
The commission says its new policy would affect several major thoroughfares in those three cities.
Officials from the cities were not immediately available to comment.
