Explosion rocks Shamrock RV park

SHAMROCK, TEXAS -- Wheeler County Deputies responded to an explosion at an RV Park outside of Shamrock, Texas on August 14 at approximately 10:30pm.

Deputies found a man who was suffering from wounds from an explosion.

The unnamed man was airlifted by Lifestar to a hospital in Amarillo. The extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.

As deputies began to observe the scene they became aware of the great amount of danger to other residents of the RV park and residents were asked to evacuate for their own safety.

Amarillo Police Department's Bomb Squad was called in when officers found over 22 lbs of explosive materials.

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) were also called to the scene when officers found numerous weapons and ammunition present in the travel trailer.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations was on hand to look over documents and computers for any domestic terroristic threats.

Officers also found a signigicant amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia with the small trailer.

Texas Department of Transportation shut down Farm to Market Road 2033 so that members of the bomb squad could gather the explosives and make the scene safe for the other residents of the RV park.

It is currently unknown what caused the explosion. There was only a small explosion doing damage to only the immediate area within the trailer and the hand of the occupant.
